How to safely un-jailbreak your iPhone

We hope we’re not the ones who inspired you to jailbreak your gadget, but if you did it after reading our blog… Enjoy it! And if you would like to get the latest iOS version or if you’re just tired of having that fancy interface and want to stick with the basics, please read this till the end.
This guide will not only allow you to completely get rid of the jailbreak and bring back the fresh-out-of-the-box state to iOS (or iPadOS), but you’ll also learn how to save all of your data.
So, after reading this step by step “how-to” you will be able to safely remove jb by using one of these major tools (unc0ver or checkra1n).
Please note, this method is supposed to work on all iOS 13 versions, incl. iOS 13.5.
How to remove unc0ver jb?
First things first, unc0ver is one of the best tools for jailbreak, so you have a good taste if you used it. ;)
It’s fast & easy and has lots of nice features on-board. Luckily, one of these things is its “restore”-ability. Simply follow the steps below to undo all the changes that came with your jailbreak. And no, you won’t need a computer for it.
- Launch the unc0ver app on your device.
- Open “Settings” located on the top left corner of the screen.
- In “Settings” swipe down till you find “Restore RootFS” and “Refresh Icon Cache toggles”. Enable both.
- Tap the “Done” button to return to the app’s home screen.
- Now hit the “Restore RootFS” or “Re-Jailbreak” button. Let unc0ver run through the jailbreak process.
- Then, when you see a pop-up with “Restore RootFS” tap “OK”.
- Chill while unc0ver removes jb from your gadget. It might take up to 15 minutes to complete, so take a coffee break and do not touch your phone for a while.
- Finally, when you see a screen with the “RootFS has been successfully restored” message, just tap “OK” to reboot your iPhone/iPad.
After that final reboot, your device will start up in a non-jailbroken state. Now you can just delete unc0ver like any other “normal” app. Additionally, Cydia will disappear after the reboot too.
How to un-jb with checkra1n tool?
If you used another jailbreak tool called checkra1n, good news, it also allows users to remove jailbreak without restoring or using a computer. We’ll break down what needs to be done below:
- Launch the checkra1n app from your home screen.
- Tap on the “Restore System” button.
- Wait up to 20 minutes while checkra1n removes the jailbreak from your device.
Once the wait is over and you see the “success” screen, the jailbreak is removed and your iPhone/iPad is back to its original non-jailbroken state.
Tip:
You can still find the Cydia icon on the home screen, but no need to worry and re-do anything, it has been removed from the device. If you need to hide the Cydia icon for any reason, just put it in a folder or simply restore your device with iTunes to delete it. But don’t do it if you still want to jailbreak your device in the foreseeable future.
Extreme way of removing jailbreak
Important: You’ll need a computer for this, and after using this method, you’ll be unable to JB your device once again.
If you are 100% sure that you won’t need to jailbreak in the near future, then it’s recommended to use this way of “Restoring” to completely remove all jailbreak-related files from your iPhone/iPad. With these extreme measures you will do a full restore of iOS, so it even removes the Cydia icon afterward.
Well, how does it work?
- Double-check that your “Find My iPhone” option is disabled. You can find it here Settings > Apple ID > iCloud > Find My > Find My iPhone > Off.
- Use a cable to connect your iPhone or iPad to your desktop, then launch iTunes. Now you need to open the “Summary” — click on the iPhone/iPad icon to access it.
- Create a new backup of your device with iTunes. You can skip this step if you use iCloud backup, but please make sure that everything you need is actually backed up.
- Now press and hold the “Option” key (“Shift” on Windows) and click on “Restore”.
- You’ll then have to wait while your device is restoring its iOS/iPadOS.
- Once the operating system has been restored, bring the backup copy to your device to get all your data.
Voila! Easy to jailbreak and easy to un-jailbreak.
